Who was Brian?
Brian was the son of Doug and Renee LaViolette and brother of Kimberly. Brian was lost in a swimming accident on August 8, 1992, at the age of 15 off of Chambers Island in Door County, WI. He was entering his sophomore year at DePere High School.
He loved his family and friends, made time for soccer and golf, and enjoyed playing the trumpet in band. But with the fun came hard work. He excelled in school and set his sights on college
When was the Brian LaViolette Scholarship Foundation established?
With donations made at his memorial service, Brian’s family established a scholarship foundation in his memory, and the Brian LaViolette Scholarship Foundation was formed as a non profit organization.
What is the mission of the Brian LaViolette Foundation?
The mission of the Brian LaViolette Scholarship Foundation is to enrich the lives of others by honoring hard work and community service, offering inspiration, and sharing in the belief that “The Journey is the Reward.”
How many scholarships has the Foundation presented?
To date, nearly 1200 scholarships have been awarded, some in Brian’s memory, others in honor of our fallen heroes of the past, and others in honor of those close to Brian. For decades, 75% of the annual scholarships presented were in honor of others.
What is the Brian LaViolette Scholarship Endowment Campaign?
After 33 years as a Foundation, our Board of Directors created a campaign to endow a scholarship in Brian’s name for the first time.
This campaign will be a one-time campaign. With a goal of 1.5 million dollars for the endowment, the Foundation will be able to award the Brian LaViolette Scholarship for generations to come.
Why Scholarships?
The opportunity to receive a scholarship could be the difference between gaining a higher education or not. We have witnessed how scholarships motivate and inspire students in their dreams. What the Foundation does may not be life saving, but it is definitely life changing.
Where will the scholarships be presented?
After 33 years of literally traveling the world, it’s time to journey back home. To bring the foundation back to its roots. To settle back in and create deep, lasting transformations for students right here – in the community where it all started in Northeast Wisconsin.

Brian’s legacy has touched countless people all over the world. It has been a remarkable journey of support, inspiring future generations, and bringing people together. The Foundation has worked very hard to accomplish great things, and its journey truly has been the reward.
