The present lot features two attractive Vulcain wristwatches dating to circa 1960s and 70s. The pair complement one another and embody the drastic changes in design from the minimal elegance of the 60s to the bold cushion-shapes of the 70s.
Founded in 1858 by Jacque Ditisheim and his sons in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, Vulcain is renowned for its innovation in watchmaking, including the creation of the Cricket in 1947, the first alarm wristwatch. Vulcain's rich history includes a unique connection to the White House, where the Cricket became known as the "President's Watch" after Harry S. Truman received one, a tradition that has continued with every sitting U.S. President since.
