What does this scholarship mean to you?
WE THINK OUR 2023 RECIPIENTS SAY IT BEST…
“Receiving the Matt Atkinson Scholarship means much more than simply getting paid and using that money for college. I feel most proud of what it means to receive it because it isn’t just some random scholarship I applied for. It’s something that I’ve had my eye on this whole year because it was about doing things not for yourself and for others and that sums up the whole reason that I want to pursue my dreams of being a firefighter.
I’m very thankful to receive this scholarship and thank you for choosing me. This award makes me feel very proud and accomplished for all the hard work that I’ve put in and it pushes me to pursue my dream even further.”

“Being selected to receive the Brian Laviolette Above and Beyond Scholarship and be a part of his legacy is both an honor and privilege. It will assist me in pursuing my dreams of not only being a civil engineer but an officer in the United States Air Force.
Not only does the scholarship support me financially, but it strengthens a sense of support from my community that I have the potential to make a difference and reach my goals. I hope that one day, I can make a similar difference in others' lives.”

“Receiving this scholarship is a tremendous honor to me. To start, I am proud to be able to live on Brent’s legacy and remember him as the great man he was. That alone will motivate me to continue my goal to do good in the world and serve the community just as Brent served and protected the nation.
It will also help me receive an education and reach my goal of becoming a firefighter while taking some financial pressure away from me. Once again, I am truly honored to receive this amazing scholarship and will make everyone involved in this process proud.”

”I think that each of us has a responsibility to participate in creating a better and fairer world. Many people think that what they do does not make a difference, but I believe that even small steps can have a big impact. That's why it's important to be active and try to contribute to positive changes, even with small steps.”
